Update from Sid Valley Help 4 June 2020
Over the past 10 weeks Sid Valley Help volunteers have been providing essential support to self-isolating and housebound people by shopping, collecting prescriptions, or dog walking. Volunteer drivers have been taking people to urgent medical appointments and there are a group of volunteers who carry out regular telephone befriending.
By the end of May, Sid Valley Help had processed 450 requests for support to over 340 households and nearly 400 individuals. Many requests are repeating, for example a need to collect a prescription every week.
Over 120 people signed up to provide support - thank you! - and about 100 volunteers are currently active. The number is reducing as people return to work or deal with other commitments so we are keen for new people to join us.
We continue to accept requests for support on 01395 892011 and to recruit new volunteers. This website has useful information as does the Sidmouth Town Council website at www.sidmouth.gov.uk. East Devon District Council has a coronavirus community support hub at 01395 571500.
Support a neighbour If you can give assistance please use the postcard printed in the Sidmouth Town Council's leaflet (see item dated 19 March below) or contact us to volunteer. If you need help contact Sid Valley Help to be connected to a volunteer.
